In response to Arts Council England’s desire to support the development of artistic talent for the UK music industry, leading Music Development Agency, Generator, have established a national contemporary music touring network, Mapped Out that will link high quality, industry ready emerging talent to promoters.
In partnership with Liverpool Sound City, Higher Rhythm, Music South West, Community Music East and Clare Edwards (West Midlands), Generator will work with a pool of national live music agents and link emerging talent to an established and developing promoter in each region represented.
Following a scoping exercise by Arts Council who were looking at how they could help develop talent for the UK music industry it was realised that a lack of sustainable promoters throughout the regions of England presented a clear barrier for strong emerging talent to set out on a first tour. Agents from the leading UK live music agencies expressed that this was a clear problem.
In response to this Generator formulated the Mapped Out Programme to ensure the professional development of Live Music promoters in areas where little or no activity of this nature happened. Drawing on the agencies experiences, networks and contacts Generator have assembled a strong team containing all elements needed to tackle the issue and ensure there is continued growth of this sector.
Developing promoters will also benefit from building strong links with national live agents, job shadows with established promoters, networking meetings and promoter master-classes that will cover digital marketing, principles of design and brand building.
The six developing promoters were selected based on commitment, drive and passion in towns where there is insubstantial provision for emerging music. Audience development is an important part of Mapped Out and the information gathered by promoters as the project develops will inform its progress.
Headline artists will benefit from a robust national touring network but there are also talent pathways for emerging artists at a regional level, support acts get the opportunity to play to new audiences as well as be part of the dialogue between national promoters and agents.
There will be a total 12 tours over the three years of the programme with regional and local support expertly selected by regional partners and promoters.
